Choosing a powder ski

Hi, need some help choosing a powder ski.  I've used the skimountain ski search (which is sweet by the way) and narrowed it down to 9 designs as I want to stay under 100mm underfoot.  My instinct was to stay sub-95 to keep it easier to handle on piste but should I embrace the fatness?  My current skis are 86 underfoot and although ok, hardly rock in powder.

So the choice is between the 168 (95 underfoot) Elysium, 170 (96) Aura, 175 (98) Lola or the 173 (99 underfoot) Geisha.   All look great, apart from the Scott Lolas.  Great name, awful graphics.  Any thoughts on these skis from anyone whose skied them, appreciated.....

Re: Choosing a powder ski

Hi powderminx,  they're all good skis so alot of the choice comes down to personal preference.  It would be useful to know your rough height and weight as that has a major bearing on what width and length would suit you best.  Its also very much the case that some of those skis will be better in one set of conditions while others will be better at other times... what you really want to find is the one that suits your skiing style most while at the same time being as versatile as possible over a wide range of conditions.  You should also see if you can get a shot on any of them as there's no substitute for trying em out!

Re: Choosing a powder ski

Soulrider, you never ask a lady her weight..... but as I'm looking for ski advice - 60kgs and about 170cm.   I'm leaning towards the Geishas, hoping to get some decent time in the backcountry so think these would do the job.....

Re: Choosing a powder ski

Yeah - I apologise, what was I thinking!  Anyway, for that sort of weight / height the Geisha's will be a good choice for powder days.  You'd probably find them pretty hefty on non-powder days and you're really too light to ever need anything fatter so I'd say these would be at the fat end of a ski quiver for you... which sounds like what you want.  On deep days you could probably handle the 173 length but note that its got a fairly big radius of 23m so they'll want to go FAST and pretty straight - if you're in the game for that sort of skiing then you'll love em!
