It doesn't seem to matter what I do, my feet sweat bucketloads while skiing to the extent that when I take my ski boots off they feel really wet inside. Its fine if I'm just out for a few hours on a warm day but as soon as its cold its a nightmare as the dampness makes my feet even colder than they would be otherwise. Even worse is when I can't dry the boots overnight for whatever reason (e.g. up at a hut or even just when travelling etc). Any suggestions?
Re: Feet sweating in ski boots
Posted Mon, 01/16/2012 - 14:11i have exactly the same problem...damp ski boots in the morning are not fun...the best solution I've found today is to take out the ski boot liner and leave them upside down overnight. If you don't have a ski boot warmer (I don't) a hairdryer does a pretty good job at drying them out but can be quite time consuming...
Its not much to go on but its the extent of my knowlege, I'd love to hear any other tips!!

Posted Mon, 01/16/2012 - 14:52i totally hate this issue - I actually have two problems: one is the sweating and the other is snow getting in through the overlap in the shells - this then melts and soaks the inner boot. Result: freezing feet. Sometimes when I take my inners out and tip the shells upside down big chunks of snow fall out!

Posted Mon, 01/16/2012 - 17:20I get this too, though not as bad as some of my mates - some folk definitely have sweatier feet than others! I sometimes put some anti-perspirant / foot deoderant on... you've got to do it a while before putting your socks on so it has time to dry out first. It 'sort of' works for me (as does using talcum powder though i've found that tends to make my feet a bit slippy which isn't so good). If nothing else it stops my feet stinking quite so bad!

Posted Tue, 01/17/2012 - 20:14Are you say those snowfox feet of yours never sweat? I sometime try wearing 2 pair of thin socks which helps.

Posted Tue, 01/17/2012 - 20:43My little paws never sweat. They're too bloody cold all the time! Need to start a new thread on how to keep feet warm in ski boots!
Re: Feet sweating in ski boots
Posted Thu, 01/19/2012 - 10:00I reckon its an intractible problem because your feet ARE going to sweat and your ski boots ARE NOT breathable! Result = wet feet. How wet just depends on how sweaty your feet are and how hot they get. I still haven't found a good solution but I've read and thought alot about the whole vapour barrier thing - it makes alot of sense to me. Trouble is if you have socks that are good at wicking, all they're doing is transferring the sweat from your feet to your boot insulation, resulting in wet boots - and worse that results in cold feet because the insulation is now wet. Adding to the problem is the fact that the wicking socks remove the moisture from your skin which actually encourages them to sweat more... i.e. complete system failure! The whole vapour barrier thing comes at it from a different angle and accepts that your feet ARE going to sweat and that your boots AREN'T breathable - so you wear a really thin liner sock with an impermeable membrane sock on top - the liner sock does get damp, but your boot insulation stays dry because the sweat can't get through the membrane. In theory as well although the liner gets damp it won't keep getting wetter because your skin will sense that its already damp and stop sweating. I like that theory but as yet haven't found a good membrane sock - i'd looked at the Gator neoprene ones but can't seem to find them in the UK. Anyone got any ideas?
