It was one of those mornings where you look at the hill and think "nah... not today"... but sometimes you just have to go up anyway... and sometimes you get pleasantly surprised by how good it is! Shame its due to get really windy at the weekend - with any luck it'll stay just about cold enough to snow rather than rain. Some photos from today below - enjoy.

Dave Making it look alot deeper than it actually was!

Nevis Range - Wendy ripping down the Sneachda below the chair...

Nevis Range - Just for the camera!

Nevis Range - Hard to look cool when pulling a ski out of the burn!

Nevis Range - Keep smiling Wendy, no-one noticed the ski-in-the-burn thing!

Nevis Range - nice snow in the Sneachda

Nevis Range - Chancers over the back - nice snow, crap vis!
Hope you like the photies - any questions about conditions let me know...

Posted Fri, 01/20/2012 - 17:13Photos look like a lot of fun. Any idea how Wingers Wall or the Nid is looking yet?
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Sat, 01/21/2012 - 16:27Just tweaked this image - amazing what the camera picks out despite the clag!
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Fri, 01/20/2012 - 17:19hi blue_mack - didn't really get a good look at wingers or the Nid (it was pretty clagged in over the back) - there would have been nice skiing on wingers today though. Nid's probably still a bit rocky I guess. Unfortunately it looks like it'll crap out tomorrow so not sure we'll be able to get up. Just hoping it doesn't warm up and rain!

Posted Fri, 01/20/2012 - 17:34Looks good! Shame about the way the winds are looking this weekend, looks an almost definite 'no chance'. Might try my luck at Glenshee on Sunday just to play on the airbag!
If Nevis is a no-go this weekend I have a free day on Wednesday so fingers crossed for lesser winds!! The winds this year have been unreal. Anyone fancy a meet, greet and ski at some point?
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Fri, 01/20/2012 - 17:35Hi @crankski - Well, it didn't slide! There was a fairly small soft cornice which broke off easily (there were bigger cornices in places), then say 10cm of fresh snow (a bit more right at the top) ontop of the old sheet ice... which doesn't sound ideal but the fresh snow on top wasn't cohesive at all so didn't seem to want to slab. Could change completely by tomorrow though (due to warm up and probably lots of wind-loading) so take care if you're up there.
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Fri, 01/20/2012 - 17:45hi @scotty - looking forward to seeing some photos of the airbag!! Suspect you're right about it being a no-go this weekend but soon as it looks good i'm sure there'll be a few of us up there so drop us a line if you're heading up...
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Fri, 01/20/2012 - 18:29Nice photies soulrider... why does it always happen when I'm elsewhere!
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Fri, 01/20/2012 - 19:02Yeah. I had to work today. Pish. Hoping Sunday or Monday is a goer. Reckon it looks like it will be blowing a hoolie tomorrow.
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Sat, 01/21/2012 - 15:13Yeah it was suprissinly good well worth the afternoon out... :) A few pics...
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Sat, 01/21/2012 - 15:52Hi BackCorries - welcome to the forum & nice pics!! Heres hoping its snowing up there just now and the wind dies down for tomorrow!
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Sat, 01/21/2012 - 20:59Think I'm going to make the trip tomorrow. The wind is forecast to be a bit less, will probably leave a wee bit later to wait for an update from Nevis before I head up. Glenshee sounds fun for world snow day but the lack of skiing they have to offer just now just does not do it for me, really hoping Nevis can offer more. Anyone else going to be heading along? I'll be coming myself tomorrow so would be great to meet up if anyone fancies it.
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Sat, 01/21/2012 - 21:43hi scotty... yep, I'm going to see what it looks like in the morning but if its open and looking at all decent we'll be up. Suspect it'll be open but crap weather so might not be up for long! Maybe see you on the t-bar for a slide!
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Mon, 01/23/2012 - 17:35Didn't make it to Nevis on sunday, ended up at Glencoe instead. I was swung by vis on the webcams looking better and the sky looking better at Glencoe when I passed - also the whitedot demo was a nice addition! All in all a great day, really nice soft snow in the main basin, mixture of the odd scraped patch and heavier snow lower down.
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Mon, 01/23/2012 - 21:23Yep, I heard it was OK at Glencoe. It was actually pretty good at Nevis as well though the vis was coming and going. Some nice snow up there today but after setting off a slide down easy gully and then coming too close for comfort with a cornice collapse on chancers we called it a day. Lots of people skiing it without transceivers - rather them than me!! I'll post some not great footage of easy gully in a bit...

Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Thu, 01/26/2012 - 13:24Snow up there again today after lots melting away yesterday. Looks not half bad. Hope it stays for the weekend. It's going to be a karate kid season, snow on, snow off, snow on, snow off.... (an 80s film reference for all you kids out there).
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Thu, 01/26/2012 - 13:28Who's going to take the role of Mr Miyagi to finish the teaching and whip the weather into shape then?
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Thu, 01/26/2012 - 16:00Ahhhh, Scotty-san. Mr Miyagi say, mountain look deceptively white. Seriously, word from someone who was up there before the winds closed the lifts today was, windblown drifts interspersed with scraped ice from yesterdays super melt all the way down the Goose. Nice. Patience grasshopper.
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Thu, 01/26/2012 - 17:34some very good slideing to be had up the hill thisafternoon goose was very nice :D hopefuly get some more fresh overnight and into tomorrow!
Happy days! their was still a wee bit of a hard base under the quad late thisafternoon but the goose had nothing but soft snow.
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Mon, 02/06/2012 - 12:10Le Nevis Range looking lovely and continental today with blue sky and a bright yellow orb known as 'the sun' not often seen in these parts.
Really pleased to be working today and not able to ski!! Be interested in any reports on the actual snow conditions as might get up tomorrow.......

Posted Tue, 02/07/2012 - 07:55Another pic of Nevis Range yesterday (taken from the auction mart on the access road). Cover looks decent but what is the snow like? Might find out later on this morning.......

Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Wed, 02/08/2012 - 08:49Top of summit run yesterday at Nevis Range. Cracking day which didn't get windy as was forecast. Couple of climbers off to get cold in the back corries. I'll stick to skiing thanks!!
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Sat, 02/11/2012 - 11:55Anyone been riding the backs with braveheart open so far? I'm thinking of heading up tomorrow... Any reports most welcome.
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Sat, 02/11/2012 - 14:44Braveheart was running today. Had to go over and have my first ever shot on it!! Went in at Yellow Belly. Snow is pretty heavy, very spring-like. You can find patches of firmer stuff which makes nicer sliding in and around the top of the braveheart chair. High traverse out to Alpha is pretty well complete. I quite enjoyed the adventure but the snow was hard work in places. Most of the Goose and Summit are ok.
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Sat, 02/11/2012 - 19:20Figured it would be like that, think I'll still get up - beats sitting in the house for sure!
Thanks for the update :)

Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Tue, 02/14/2012 - 08:42Snow looks like it's taken a bit of a hammering :o( but interesting you could still pick your way to the bottom of the Braveheart. There's also some weird bright thing in the sky at 1m28s, oh, yeah, that's the sun!! Nice wee vid. Like the pics at the end too.
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Sun, 03/04/2012 - 08:13There has been some fresh snow on the hill overnight, yay!! However, it's gonna need just a smidge more (like half a metre!). Should I be getting my hopes up for some late season sliding? Anyone good with long range forecasts, or divination or have a working crystal ball.........
Re: Fresh snow at Nevis Range
Posted Tue, 04/10/2012 - 16:42From the Nevis Range Conditions update:
There has been 3-5cm snow at the top station and more is forecast this week. If sufficient snow accumulates to be pisted and lie over the weekend, we would open for snowsports. Looks ok from the window.
Here's hoping!!!
