New Transceiver

Just about to get a new transceiver to replace my slightly ancient Ortovox one... which would you recommend?

Re: New Transceiver

I've got a BC Tracker from a couple of years ago which I'm pretty happy with - seems good when I've practiced with it... hoping never to have to use it in anger!  I think the newer ones have a bigger range so that would be even better...

Re: New Transceiver

I can do you either a BCA T2 or an ARVA Axis at a discount to forum folks. The T2 is very fast!

Re: New Transceiver

Having done loads of research into the whole "transciever" thingy... I was all set to get a Mammut Barryvox Pulse.. That was until I tried out a different transcievr at a workshop run by the Ski Lodge in Cardiff with Mountain Guide Nigel Shepherd. The model i eventually chose, after trying out quite a few was the Ortovox 3+.  Super Super simple to use, comes with a battery and nice comfortable pouch.. oh and its super super simple to use... obviously, only my personal opinion of course..

Re: New Transceiver

Does someone know the gen on digital vs analogue - I'm still trying to get to the bottom of which ones are and which aren't and whether one is better than the other.  I heard someone say that BCA are changing to digital ones but I thought they already were so now I'm confused.  And is Barryvox the same as Ortovox or are they different companies?

Re: New Transceiver

Digital is the very best and a beacon with 3 antenna's. Simple works well which is why folk like the T2 or 3+.  The "mark" feature is useful but a multiple search is only lots of single searches so I wouldnt get hung up on this feature.  You can mark as many as you want but in the end its first guy found quick dug out fast that survives.  The ARVA Axis is a cheaper option if you want that "mark"feature and dont want to pay the extra £100 for the Pulse.  Too many functions slows the processor and by searching multiple signals the processor has to sort our the signal overlaps slowing things down..  If your'e only skiing with a buddy the T2 wins hands down but if in a big group of +6 then the Axis or Pulse is of some use for Guides.

The Pulse, Axis and DSP start the signal search in analog which has a greater range but revert to digital as soon as the signal is strong.  A good feature if you going to get dumped on big time. If your really going for it I can sell you an airbag! or if you want to test an Axis or T2 it can be arranged up at the Coe or NR sometime in Feb
