So... every time I have a pidgeon french conversation with my French neighbours we end up discussing the snow. Invariably they will state, quite categorically, that the next big snowfall will come when its the next full moon. I've heard this quite a few times from French people, particularly in more rural resorts - I swear they really believe the snow comes with the moon and the two are intrinsically linked. Surely that isn't true... or is it? Full moon tomorrow - fingers crossed!

Posted Thu, 03/10/2011 - 09:07Well, if it is true, expect some mega snow next weekend....
This phenomenon has reportedly heightened concerns about 'supermoons' being linked to extreme weather events - such as earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis, coinciding in the past with the Indonesian earthquake and Hurricane Katrina.
However, experts believe that a larger moon causing weather chaos is a popular misconception. - "The dangers are really overplayed. You do get a bit higher than average tides than usual along coastlines as a result of the moon's gravitational pull, but nothing so significant that will cause a serious climatic disaster or anything for people to worry about." Dr Tim O'Brien.

Posted Fri, 01/06/2012 - 19:42This 'might' be true in France, but it sure doesn't hold true in Scotland! Although if you replaced the word 'snow' with 'rain' the statistics would probably look pretty good!

Posted Wed, 01/11/2012 - 09:11WOW....it would be amazing if this was really true?! Just missed one on the 9th. Myabe I should move my skiing trip to Scotland back, until the next full moon on the 7th Feb
Re: The Moon and The Snow
Posted Wed, 01/11/2012 - 10:25just did a search on google for "does the moon affect precipitation" and amazingly enough there seems to be plenty of stuff out there claiming it to be the case. I even started reading something that said the moon makes earthquakes and tsunamis more likely as well... eh???? how does THAT work?
