As with quite a few of the club fields in New Zealand, you need to walk in to Broken River. It can seem like hard work, but there's a goods lift which saves you carrying your kit up, and it all adds to the club field skiing experience. Broken River is linked (by a short hike) with Craigieburn and these two club fields arguably offer some of the best skiing on offer in New Zealand.
Broken River is another of the Arthurs Pass ski resorts - its 123 km to Christchurch... travelling west on Highway 73, follow the signposts to Arthurs Pass; the Broken River turnoff is well labelled on the left, about 14km from the top of the Porters Pass. Once you get to the car park, the Inclinator funicular-style goods lift will carry your gear up while you walk up through the forest to the lodges.
Broken River is administered by the Broken River Ski Club. It offers an alternative to skiers and snowboarders who are looking to experience back to basics fun in the snow.
There is a range of accommodation for skiers at Broken River (fully serviced, club style & backpackers) and a snack shop keeps you in Moro bars!
Ski - Sleep - Ski packages offer lifts, accommodation and lessons for any length of stay. There is even some night skiing under lights when conditions permit!

Three basins, five tows and no crowds - Broken River with good snow kicks ass - get yourself there for a visit!
