Introduction

Club Maluti was established in 1968 in the northern Lesotho Highlands.  Founder members negotiated with local chiefs to obtain the right to the land and a hut was built.  Snow conditions in the Malutis, as elsewhere in Southern Africa, are unpredictable.  The Club is entirely reliant upon good quality natural snow.  It does snow annually but enough skiable snow generally only comes every so many years with the last good seasons being 1990, 1996 and 1997.

Facilities and Services

Club Maluti, is just that, a Club and not a formal 'resort'.  The Club has a caretaker who gets the generator started and lights the fires.  Accommodation at the Club is a basic hut with bunks, running water and showers for a maximum of 40 people.  Club Maluti also offers Hiking, Mountain Biking, Fishing, Kayaking, Broomball and 4 x 4 which may be a better bet with the unpredictable snow cover.

If there is snow, the Club hires skiing and snowboarding equipment to members first and then the public and guests second.  Everyone helps with erecting draglifts! which give a 300m to 400m length piste.  If conditions are really good a second and third draglift can be erected.  Membership of Club Maluti is R200.
