Ahh, Craigieburn - anyone out there wish to bribe the Yipadoo.com team into stopping telling people about Craigieburn? Craigieburn is linked (pretty much) with Broken River and the skiing here can be awsome. Its a club field and you do have to walk up to it, but for any but the laziest of riders a visit here will prove well worth it! Beginners should go elsewhere, and make sure you have a good attitude before heading here... part of what makes it great is the culture, history, and vibe where everyone's friendly, so don't spoil it!
The skiing at Craigieburn is only about an hour and a half away from Christchurch in Arthurs Pass on highway 73. There's a reasonably short access which 2 wheel drive vehicles (not camper vans) can get up, provided they have chains.
The skiing at Craigieburn can be magic - steeps, deeps, chutes, and a bar with all your buddies afterwards! When (if) you get sick of Craigieburn, a short hike accesses Broken River and you can start again!
There are three high capacity rope tows servicing an impressive vertical rise of 500m. The skiing terrain at Craigieburn Valley is pretty diverse with the infamous 600m vertical descent of Middle basin (which is often compared to a heliskiing experience) accessible by a short traverse from the tow.
