Isola 2000 is not the most famous of French ski areas as it is a purpose built resort designed for the package tour era and has little traditional feel to it. I would say that it is quite a good resort for beginners or intermediates, but there's not really enough for experts. As with all places though, skiers and riders will probably get out as much as they put in and if you really look, there's still fun to be had.

It is one of the few French resorts with an expanse of tree skiing available which gives it the upper hand when the weather is bad. The trees give a lot of shelter and give runs a more defined look during white-out conditions. They also hold snow well so that there are often stashes of powder hidden in the forest for some number of days after snowfall. My personal gripe about trees is that they often spoil an otherwise perfectly good landing by growing their mischievous little branches in the most awkward of places. Grrr........

For those seeking blue and red runs through pretty forest areas, I think that this may be the place for you. If trees are your thing then I would also check out the resort of Serre Chevalier. My favourite blue was the lengthy “Avenue” which runs underneath the TCD Pelevos lift. Wide open yet bordered by trees so that there is great opportunity to try tree skiing without straying too far from the piste. I also think that beginners will love one of the longest green runs I've seen, “Grand Tour”, which leads from near the peak of the resort (and terrain park) below the 2423 La Roubine.
In terms of village, the area is almost exactly what you would expect from a purpose built complex. Although not the prettiest of places, everything is very conveniently placed for easy access to slopes and other amenities. Just don't expect a dazzling cultural experience! If you're hungry then I would highly recommend “La Crocodile” which does excellent Mexican food.

Isola 2000 is only a 50 minute car journey from the airport at Nice and there is also a regular train service from the city; this makes the resort a good area to visit if it is a weekend visit. I would consider this resort if you want trees and enjoy blue and red runs, otherwise I would go somewhere else.
