Jackson Hole, Wyoming, sure as hell aint no hole: it's absolutely brilliant!! Recieving over 400 inches of snow a year and having some of the coolest lift accessed terrain on the planet, its bound to be a winner. As the locals say, "come to Jackson if you wanna huck". There's some excellent skiing for all ability ranges here, but it is not considered a mecca for the extreme for nothing. This place has earned its reputation and exceeds the hype: it should be on every serious rider's hit list.

The hole actually isn't above the nearby village of Jackson (which has its very own little ski resort of outstanding steepness), but instead rises upwards from the purpose built Teton Village. The small, but ever-growing cluster of facilities is actually very cool and doesn't feel like a rich tourist trap. Instead it feels like a place which exists just so that the hardcore skiers and snowboarders can relax a little after a hard day of jumping off stuff.
Jackson Hole is pretty in the middle of nowhere compared to many other major ski resorts and this is what makes it so special. It's just not that busy. You could have the deepest powder day ever and a blue bird sky, and the only people on the hill would be super-stoked locals and a few hardcore riders who were willing to make the drive.

The on-piste groomer skiing is really good (if you really want to ski on the trails) and there is a great selection of intermediate skiing on offer. Beginners may struggle to find much to go at, but there are a few nice and gentle runs by the base of the mountain. Yep, there's a good terrain park, but you'll probably only play there to settle your nerves after some hectic big lines.
This wonderland has the largest vertical amount of skiable terrain of anywhere in the States and the good old top to bottom speed run has been known to cause a good few nose bleeds and stretched ear drums. There aren't many no go areas in Jackson and a lot of the lift accessed terrain is very well avalanche controlled. That said, you need to be aware of the danger of avalanches and don't go out of bounds unless you know what you're doing and are appropriately equipped with all the necessary safety gear.

The best thing about Jackson Hole has to be those famous cliff bands which are just all over the place. I can almost guarantee that you'll end up dropping the biggest cliffs of your life, but if cliff jumping isn't your thing then you can still get a face full of snow and a massive smile from your day. Trees at Jackson are really good because they're so well spaced and are just numerous enough to give you really good reference points on those steep lines. They're also great on those nasty storm days when they give a little shelter from the white-outs.
Bet you've got Johnny Cash in your head by now- “I'm going to Jackson”. I should bloody hope so too!!
