Please note that resort stats include areas which are linked or accessed from La Tania and do not reflect the actual skiing here. Please read on.
La Tania is often available as a budget option being a low link in the Three Valleys resort chain. It sits between Meribel and Courchevel and is at the relatively meagre altitude of 1350 metres. So long as you accept that you may need to use the gondola to get to and from the slopes (only if snow is poor) then you can save yourself some money by choosing this lesser favoured resort. I doubt that the amount of money that you save will offset the hassle of this resort's location; not when you consider the alternatives of Courchevel, Meribel or Val Thorens.

The resort was purpose built just before the 1992 Albertville Olympics in order to house the massive crew of journalists, reporters and photographers who were covering the event. In comparison to many other purpose built resorts it is very pretty and at least appears to be quite authentic. When I visited I found that almost all of the people I met in the village were Bits; even the ones working in the shops, bars and hotels.
You don't have much choice of apres ski entertainment in La Tania, but the one and only real option- The Ski Lodge Bar- is actually quite a pleasant place to be. Its not that far to Courchevel or Meribel on foot, but surely you don't want to walk around when you're on holiday. I think I may be overly lazy.

There are some good intermediate runs which lead to the village through forested surroundings. The forest gives great protection when the weather is bad and makes the visibility seem slightly better as the trees give obvious reference points amongst the white. The low lying runs also remain unclouded when much of the upper valley is a white-out.
For more advanced skiers it will be a case of making the journey to the slopes of Courchevel or Meribel. Here you will find more than enough to keep you busy. There are definitely a few good off piste opportunities which stem from the Col de la Loz which can be accessed within two lifts of La Tania. The terrain up here is quite steep though and might be a bit much for all but the hardcore (who should go somewhere else anyway).

I wouldn't recommend La Tania for a holiday or a season as the access thing is just too much of a faff and the village does nothing to alleviate the problem. Spend a little more and go somewhere a little better situated! Or if you're really that broke then why not go skiing in Scotland, at least then you'll build a bit of character...
