Montgenevre is the only French resort in the Milky Way area being located at one end of the chain. The wider area is huge and includes the Italian resorts of Sestriere, Sauze D'Oulx and Claviere. Montgenevre on its own isn't actually that big and I would mainly consider it to be an intermediate or family resort. The village is at 1850 m so its quite a safe place to visit in terms of snow cover.

It is one of the oldest resorts in France and the village celebrated its centenary in 2007; it retains its traditional look to this day. There is not much on the go in terms of nightlife and there are fewer lager louts here than at many other popular resorts. It does feel like a pleasant, safe and quiet environment and could therefore be reasonably well suited to families.
The nursery slopes are located by the village which is ideal from an access point of view and it is almost impossible to get lost down at the bottom of this hill. The slopes are very well attended to and I have heard reports that the ski instructors here speak great English and are generally very good. While the kids are at lessons it would be a great area for parents to explore as the neighbouring resorts are easy to access and well worth a look.

The pipe and park at this resort are not that great by modern standards to the extent where I would flat out recommend freestylers to go elsewhere. There is also a definite lack of steep terrain and I really didn't rate the black runs as being particularly impressive. If you are really rich then apparently there is potential for good heli-skiing which takes off from Montgenevre and takes riders to Italy for luxury off piste action.

If cross country skiing is your bag then this is a really good place to be. There are over 25 km of really well maintained trails winding though the beautiful woodland and taking in the lake beside nearby Clavier. Montgenevre is the place were the national cross country skiing team train so watch out for fast moving, sweaty French people.
I wouldn't bother with this resort if you are either an expert skier/snowboarder, or if you are interested in terrain parks. For a family though, this resort would be high on my list as its stress free, snow sure, good fun skiing.
