Introduction
Mount Buller is the closest of all major ski areas to the Melbourne's international airport, located 225km north-east of the city. Some smaller resorts are closer to Melbourne but these almost exclusively cater for cross country skiing. Mount Buller is situated right next to the smaller resort of Mount Stirling. The resort offers some 300ha of skiable terrain, with snow canons ensuring 74ha have good snow cover. The longest run at Mount Buller is around 2.5km and the nearest town is Mansfield, at 40km away.

Mount Buller resort offers all the standard facilities and services: ski hire, trails, ski school, toboganning, a tubing park, snow shoeing, restuarants, nightclubs, bars and shops. It also has race courses, speed traps, night skiing and a range of non-ski related activities including a spa retreat and village cinema.
There are three terrain parks catering to skiers and snowboarders alike and one half pipe. These parks cater to all levels. The beginner/intermediate terrain park is on Burnt Hut Spur. The second terrain park is on Wombat. There are also two dedicated snowplay areas.
Mount Buller has a great variety of terrain with easy greens through to double black runs. With north, south and east facing slopes, it means that sheltered skiing can be found in most weather. The resorts proximity to Melbourne is both a good and bad thing, whilst easy to get to it can be very crowded.

Travel
Driving to Mount Buller is fairly straightforward. From Melbourne you head to Yea, which is about halfway to Mount Buller. There are numerous routes with some best avoided due to heavy traffic. From Yea there is only 1 way which takes you to Mansfield. A further 40 min drive past the Mount Stirling turn-off takes you to the mountain.
