Introduction
Mount Donna Buang is technically the closest snowfield to Melbourne. It sit at 1,250 metres. In winter, it usually receives snow suitable for snowplay and is primarily a snowplay destination for families and kids. Very, very occasionally there is enough snow for skiing.
Facilities and Services
The resort is not geared towards skiing or snowboarding, there are no lifts or pistes. Mount Donna Buang does however, offer an area for snowplay, toboganning, snow shoeing and snow walks. It's proximity to Melbourne, low altitude and focus makes it a good place to take kids to see snow for the first time and play.
Travel
The nearest town is Warburton, 20 km away. Fom Melbourne, you take the Maroondah Highway (B 360) to Lilydale and the Warburton Highway (B 380) to Warburton. At the eastern end of town turn onto the Acheron Way (C 507). Continue to the junction with the Donna Buang Road (C 505). This is a toll road when there is decent snow. The road is sealed all the way to the summit area carpark.
