Mt Dobson is a small commercial ski field near the town of Fairlie.  Mt Dobson Ski Area has long gentle pistes and isn't one of the most exciting ski areas terrain-wise.  For beginners, families, and intermediates though Mt Dobson is well worth a visit.  The Mt Dobson season runs from late June to early October and at 1700m, the car park for Mt Dobson is the highest in New Zealand.  The founder of Mt Dobson (Peter Foote) built the access road himself in the 70's - dedication to the cause!

Mt Dobson faces South West and the snow can be excellent.  A new chair installed in 2005 has opened up a bigger area too - check it out.
