Skiing at Mount Olympus can be amazing - despite the fact that you can actually get here within an hour and a half from Christchurch, few people can face the long drive up the gnarly access road and going for a day trip isn't really a great plan. It makes most sense to go and stay at the lodge for a while and take some touring kit and a willingness to hike for some lines! The atmosphere at Mt Olympus is always stated as being fantastic and the feeling of being 'in amongst it' with only whoever else is up there can be supreme...

At Mt Olympus you can drive right to the tows (unlike some of the other club fields where you have to hike). Mount Olympus has four good nutcracker stylee rope tows accessing some wicked skiing and snowboarding terrain. The main basin faces South and its fairly high (1880m) with Mt Olympus looking down on everything waiting for the adventurous and fit! There is around 450m of lift access drop with plenty of traverse accessed steeps and deeps. Anyone prepared to hike for lines or with ski touring kit will love this place! With the relatively low skier numbers and the choice of terrain, it can take up to a week to get tracks on some slopes.

As well as the 4 rope tows, Mt Olympus also has some floodlights for nightskiing and if you've never been here and you love remote mountain skiing... wait for a forecast dump and go get you some skiing at Mount Olympus!
Remember, though... if you find powder, don't tell anyone you found it skiing at Mt Olympus!
