Skiing at Temple Basin is another don't miss New Zealand skiing experience - the long walk up to the lodges and lifts (45mins) puts alot of people off, but that makes it all the better for those who have what it takes! Like many of the NZ club fields, some of Temple Basin's terrain is amazing for skiers & boarders alike. There are also decent slopes for less advanced folk, but most beginners will get on better in more conventional settings.
Temple Basin is the northern & western most of the Arthur's Pass club ski fields - the drive from Christchurch to the Temple Basin carpark takes around 2 hours.
As with the other club fields, a free goods lift can be used to carry your kit up to the lodges. This is located 800m along State Highway 73 from the carpark (towards the West Coast). It makes sense to go up and stay for at least a night as that way you make your walk more worth it and you get the full experience!
Temple Basin Ski Area covers a great variety of terrain spread over four separate basins. There are gentle slopes for complete beginners, adrenalin-pumping challenges for the expert, and everything in between. The highest point on Mt B'limit, is at 1923 metres (with the highest lift going to 1753m).
There are three rope tows and one beginners tow along with some floodlit slopes for some night skiing in an awsome location. There is accommodation up there for over 100 people, only metres from the tows.
