Introduction
So, what do you need to know about skiing and snowboarding at Thredbo? Thredbo is a small village located in Australia's Snowy Mountains. It is one of four main ski resorts to be found in the 690,000ha that make up Kosciuszko National Park. The other three resorts being Charlotte Pass, Perisher Blue and the Selwyn Snowfields.
The resort itself is around 1,000ha and a year round destination. It has the steepest overall terrain of any ski resort in Australia and also the highest lifted point (2,037m).
Thredbo has the largest snowmaking system in the southern hemisphere, as well as the country's longest run (5.9km) and some of the steepest trails.

Facilities and Services
The village of Thredbo offers the usual variety of facilities: supermarket, fun & games kids center, shops and ski stores, walking trails, bars, leisure centre, restaurants etc. With regards skiing and snowboarding at Thredbo there is equipment hire, a ski school, full programmes for kids, an AIS training centre and a range of facilities on the hills.
Thredbo has over 50 ski runs and a number of Terrain Parks pitched at differing abilities.

These have boardercross courses, bumps, banks, rails, and jumps. The resort also offers night riding runs from 6:30 – 9:30pm throughout July and August (weather permitting), which is free with a valid lift pass.

Travel
Thredbo is around 6 hours drive from both Sydney and Melbourne. Roads are clear for most of the year, but when the big snowfalls hit, chains may be required for 2 wheel drives. Chains can be hired in Jindabyne and Khancoban. At Canberra follow the signs to the Monaro Highway to Cooma. The road then joins the Kosciuszko Road and you take the Alpine Way to Thredbo.
