Tiffindell

"South Africa's one dedicated ski resort!..."

Introduction

Established in 1993, Tiffindell is South Africa's only dedicated ski resort located on the slopes of the highest mountain in the Eastern Cape, the very Scottish sounding - Ben McDhui.  The mountain sits at 3,001m on the border with Lesotho.

The resort is constantly expanding with an on-going development plan and is becomming a popular winter holiday venue.  Located on the south facing slope of the mountain this ensures that what snow falls, lasts as long as possible in the resort.

Facilities and Services

Tiffindell has a ski and snowboard school and runs a range of lessons for the beginner, intermediate or more advanced skier / boarder.  The main slope at the resort is 1km long but there is also off-piste terrain.  Ski hire is also available.

There is accommodation for around 180 guests located just 10m from the slope.  Camping is also available if you are feeling keen!  There is a restuarant and you can enjoy Gluhwein in South Africa’s highest pub - 'Ice Station 2720'.

Snowmaking at the resort currently ensures cover for around 1km of ski run for about 3 months of the year.  This is also set to increase as part of the resorts development plan.

Travel

Tiffindell is situated high in the Drakensburg Mountains above the town of Rhodes.  This is around 212km east of Aliwal North. 2WD, 1300cc vehicles via Rhodes, with no trailers, can reach the resort.  Private vehicles can be driven to the resort but there is also a shuttle bus service via Rhodes and Wartrail.
