If you like massive comfy heated quad chairs, then Whitewater probably isn't for you. On the other hand, if you like a really chilled out, funky atmosphere and some fantastic terrain, then Whitewater is well worth a visit.
Whitewater sits around 20 minutes drive away from the town of Nelson. The resort is small, with two fairly rickety chairs going up either side of the large amphitheatre. The chairs themselves access some pretty nice pistes as well as some great tree skiing, but we felt the big thing the resort had to offer was the skiing further afield. With a pair of skins and your avi gear there is a huge amount of backcountry skiing to be had here. When you first turn up at the car park you're presented with a view of an enourmous headwall with any number of obviously skiable gullies and tree lines. What you can't see from the car park is the huge areas of inviting looking terrain over the backs of the main ski hill - all of it completely out-of-bounds and for the experienced only of course!
We don't want to put more intermediate skiers off Whitewater though, as its got a really nice feel to it with some great skiing to be had - though perhaps slightly limited if you were there for a while. The other great thing about Whitewater is its proximity to Nelson which in our opinion is definitely one of the nicer towns in this part of Canada, with way more character and feelings of permanence than for instance Golden or Revelstoke have.
