Re: Sony HVR A1E

Hello!

The hvr a1e on ebay looks good- only downside is the need to capture from DV tape (and buy DV tapes to put in it). As far as I know, the potential quality recorded onto DV tape is higher than onto slid state media (at the moment). The only issue is then capturing it to your computer which of course involves a slight and probably negligible loss in quality. Sound quality from that thing looks good. I suspect that DV tape is probably a good format, but I would seek a second opinion or read up on it. Flash card is certainly very very hassle free. For me, it is very necessary to cut the faff when it comes to filing media and editing.

My ideal camera would have a focus and zoom ring as apposed to a little buttons to press. Don’t know what that cam has but I use zoom all the time (not focus) and wish it was a bit more hands on and less sensitive. Zooming is definitely something you’ll use and want as steady as possible.

Check if its got a good optical stabilizer. The more camera stuff I’ve done, the more I’ve realised how important a steady shot is. Don’t let your wee brother steal your tripod.

All that aside, I reckon its probably a pretty safe bet.

Got to get out of this feckin office....
